Design is a Lifestyle:
Ambient Energy Display
|
With the influx of innovative technologies in the last decade, design has gone from being the definition of industrial and commercial industries, to encompassing a wide range of creative mediums. As the digital age continues to push the boundaries of Human-computer Interaction, the line between product and interface continues to be blurred. As economies and business models continue to shift into the new digital realm, designers have begun to accommodate their specialization toward the era of Design 3.0. However, to fully understand bridging the gap between physical and digital experiences, designers of the 21st century must understand a much broader sense of environment and strategy to connect to a product’s users. As markets begin to blur demographics, traditional user testing and sampling methods are no longer as valid as they once were. Current generations have begun to blend the generation gap as they gain more access to influential media on an international scale. The average young professional in their late-twenties may very well work in an office, run his own small business and chose to live a dairy-free life. Because of these types of specialized trends, designers have had to evolve their sensitivity to user focused products and become more specialized within the field of product design and market research. The Ambient Energy Display is a conceptual project that pushes the boundaries of what is considered digital or organic. Utilizing ambient light sources in its surrounding, the matrix of fiber optic cables transmit a real-time negative projection of objects in its path. The goal of the project was to create a truly organic interactive display to encourage users to rethink the idea of communication and light.
